It was a great honor to be invited to speak at Space Camp. I shared my new talk titled “The Mars Generation: It’s Our Time” with approximately 1,000 campers these past two weeks. I talked to 4 large groups of kids and they all had great questions. What was really great was that I was at Space Camp the entire time so kids could stop me and ask me questions after they heard me speak.
I have been working on my new talk for the past six months or so, and I have finally prepared it to be recorded and shared online. Watch for this recording soon.
In my new talk, I share a bit about my own story and why dreamers do change the world. I then talk about the Mars Generation and the new era of human space flight we are entering now, the ORION ERA. The talk inspires people of all generations to help pave the path to the Orion Era, creating excitement for what’s to come and an understanding of why we must continue to have humans explore space. Creating mass public support is essential in building the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System while also expanding the Mars exploration work NASA is doing to make missions in the 2030’s possible. Along with many other people and organizations, I am working to help create the needed public support.
In the talk, I give reminders why human space exploration is so important, such as the fact that there is an approximate $8 return on every $1 the United States spends on space exploration, and how human space exploration pushes us to solve problems and innovate new ways of doing things and technology to make a trip like Mars a possibility. Going to Mars also sets the stage for eventual colonization of other planets that will need to happen in the far future, but these are not the most important aspects of human space exploration. The most important aspect is what it does for the world, for our youth and our people: human space exploration inspires people to dream big, act big and inspire others.
Human space exploration is a catalyst for people to believe that the world can be a better place and to believe that they can make a difference in their own way.
One thing I say in my talk is, “To be great we must do great things.” Human space exploration is the ultimate form of doing great things. Look at what the Apollo Era did for the baby boomer generation! Look at what the Shuttle Era did for Generation X! Now it’s our turn, my generation, the Mars Generation. We are ready to do great things and to be great–and we need the older generations to help pave the way today!
I hope you will get on board and show your support for the Orion Era. Please tell your congress representatives to support the NASA’s Orion and SLS Program and our journey to Mars. If nothing else, I hope you will listen to this message of hope and continue to dream big and inspire others.
Thank you for your support!
