I have exciting news to share! As an extension of my #SoyuzAdventure I will be attending the grand opening celebrations of the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. I will be attending as a guest of my sponsor ATK, and am look forward to meeting the team upon arrival. I will attend a private event the evening of June 28th and also attend the public grand opening and events June 29 – June 30, 2013.
Having attended the last launch of Endeavour STS-134 at the Kennedy Space Center in May 2011 and also viewed the last launch of the Atlantis STS-135 at a special event at the Canadian Space Agency, I am so excited to get to see a shuttle up close now. Given that Atlantis was the last shuttle to launch to space, and this launch marks the end of an era in space history in America, I feel honored to attend this event and to get to see Atlantis up close.
I am excited and honored to be a part of this event. I look forward to the opportunity to meet many people working in the space industry including scientists, engineers, astronauts and more. I am hoping to get some great interviews for a new YouTube video series I will be starting in September called “How did you get there?” This series will consist of short 2-3 minute videos of me asking space industry professionals questions about their career paths and their advice for kids about how to find careers they love.
What is most exciting about me attending the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit is being able to incorporate it into my #SoyuzAdventure worldwide outreach project. With my outreach focused on getting kids and adults excited about STEM, space and following their dreams, what better way to do that than to share our space history past, present and future! Yes I said future. While the Shuttle represents the past and the Soyuz represents both the present and the past, I also have an exciting “future of space” experience coming up that will be incorporated into the #SoyuzAdventure outreach… but you will have to wait for that announcement – sign up for my blog email updates here to make sure you don’t miss it!
