Retired NASA astronaut Scott Kelly has always been an inspiration to me! With his record-breaking year-long stay in space, he made space flight history, being the American with the longest time living and working in space in a single space flight! Scott Kelly also was a participant in the famous twin study, where scientists examined the DNA of him and his twin brother, Mark Kelly. Even more, he commanded the space shuttle Endeavour in 2007 and the International Space Station twice.
That’s why I am so extremely thrilled that Scott Kelly will be joining me in conversation as I launch my new book, Dream Big!: How to Reach for Your Stars. Scott is also an avid supporter of STEM and of encouraging young people to become excited and engaged about space and science. He’s written his own book, Goodnight Astronaut, which will be available February 2nd, and will be speaking with me about all things STEM, the future of space, accomplishing your dreams, and more!
As this is my first book ever, this event and launch is especially meaningful for me. In my over 10 years of encouraging young people to explore space, science, and their dreams, I’ve never been more excited for a project! I’m an avid reader. As a kid dreaming of becoming an astronaut, books were what helped excite and inspire me to go down this path. To be able to write and release my own has simply been a dream come true! At least, one of my dreams. 😉
While proud of my own hard work, I also am so grateful for the path life has led me down as an aspiring astronaut and sincerely hope this book will inspire other young people with big dreams of their own. Not only has this book come from my personal experience and stories of navigating being an aspiring astronaut, but also from the heart (as cheesy as it sounds!). I’ve always had a big belief that my generation is going to accomplish unimaginable things – I sincerely believe we’ll go to Mars and make even more amazing discoveries about this universe. We are The Mars Generation. Being able to provide this helpful and motivating guide for young people is truly special.
The event will be held by Malaprop’s Bookstore and Cafe, an independent bookstore in Asheville, NC! Founded in 1982, they also have other cool events and book launches with authors.
