What NASA Sequestration Means for Education and Public OutreachThough we’ve all been sad to hear that NASA chose to suspend all education and public outreach programs in response to the mandatory spending cuts called for in the Budget Control Act of 2011, the latest news tells us that this won’t eliminate all educational and outreach activities. In the end, their goal is to save money, but I know that they still value providing educational and public outreach. That’s why reading this new list of guidelines is encouraging.

According to NASA’s Guidance for Education and Public Outreach Activities Under Sequestration, there are many education activities that have yet to be completely exempt from the suspension. NASA has unveiled specific guidelines for participation in conferences, the giving of grants and cooperative agreements, and attending certain education activities.
